Sin (Personification Piece)

In a happy town,
where happy people subside,
lives and old man.
Oh, how he longs for happiness.
He questions himself,
day after day.
"Why can't I be happy?
Why must I be despised?"
But he has a job he has yet to finish.
This old, wrinkled man made a deal
To the Devil
and has still to accomplish
his deeds.
He traded his happiness
For a life of hate
out of selflessness,
not selfishness.
And now he has lost it.
He is what he brings to life: sin.
